JavaScript Decorators: Syntactic Sugar or Superpower?

Decorators are a JavaScript feature that extends the functionality of classes. They can be applied to classes and the fields and methods of a class to access information about them and, optionally, replace them. For example, a class decorator can keep a running count of the number of instances created. A field decorator can log all accesses or validate new values before they are assigned. A method decorator can measure and report the time required for each execution. The ECMAScript Decorators proposal has been at stage 3 since 2022. Decorators are already supported by TypeScript 5+, Vite, and Deno. The web component libraries Lit, Stencil, and FAST all support decorators.
