Melanie Plaza is Chief Technology Officer at AE Studio, an applied AI and alignment research company of around 150 people whose consulting practice, for clients including Samsung, Walmart and Electronic Arts, funds its alignment research. AE's research spans alignment techniques from model pretraining to deployed systems, including GRAM, a modular pretraining method developed in collaboration with Anthropic, and two further papers accepted at ICML 2026. Over ten years at AE, Melanie has led the engineering teams building custom AI systems across industries, and she now runs the company's work applying that alignment research to production AI, closing the gap between an AI agent that works in a demo and one an organization can trust to act on its own. She holds a B.S. from Yale.
